Urban Forestry Technician (Technologists & Technicians)

Dillon is a well-established, employee-owned professional consulting firm operating across Canada and internationally.  We provide a wide range of consulting and design services related to the infrastructure, real estate, resource, industrial and government sectors in Canada and abroad.  

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Urban Forestry Technician in our Kitchener, Oakville or Toronto offices.

Responsibilities

  • Completion of field activities including tree inventory and condition assessments, woodland inventory and health assessments, vegetation and wildlife habitat surveys, soil and water sampling programs, and collection and compilation of field data
  • Preparation of reports related to tree inventory and protection, woodland management, urban forest strategic planning and policy development, ecological systems and environmental monitoring on various sites as required
  • Assistance in the development of environmental management programs such as environmental protection plans, environmental permits, and other environmental compliance documentation
  • Collaboration with and assistance to project managers and team members including biologists, arborists, agrologists, engineers, planners, and environmental scientists
  • Business travel upon request

Qualifications

  • An urban forestry technician diploma and/or degree in forestry/urban forestry or a related discipline  
  • At least two years’ related work experience is preferred
  • Urban forest assessment and planning and arborist work experience would be considered an asset
  • Registered Professional Forester designation in Ontario and/or International Society of Arboriculture certification would be considered an asset

Experience

 

  • Experience in the development and preparation of arborist reports, tree inventory and protection plans, municipal operations tree planting and maintenance plans, integrated pest management assessments, forest health assessments, private and municipal woodland management plans, applied forest ecology and silviculture assessments, botanical inventory surveys and environmental impact assessments would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to high quality client service
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies, municipal forest conservation by-laws, urban design and urban forest management objectives, principles, strategies and treatment specifications.
