The Urban Forestry Foreman 5 delivers urban forestry services to a group of communities and other City departments, working in a team environment to ensure the provision and integrity of a sustainable
and diverse urban forest and open space system. The Urban Forestry Foreman 5 will train, coach and mentor other Foremen within Urban Forestry.
 
Primary Duties include:
  • Assist the Urban Forestry Superintendent(s) with preparation of annual work plans, allocation of budget and staffing, development of projects and request for proposals.
  • Supervise the day to day activities of staff and contractors including sites visits to ensure work is being performed safely and to City standards. Ensure that all employees are properly trained for the duties and tasks they are performing.
  • Provide customer service by processing, distributing and answering questions and concerns from 311 service requests or from various community groups. Assign work and follow up to ensure work has been completed.
  • Conducts Attendance Review meetings with employees as required and writes letters documenting the meetings.
  • Participate in hiring of seasonal employees.
  • Ensure the health, safety and well being of employees and others by site inspections, tailgate meetings, monitor for compliance and endure that the staff are trained appropriately.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalency (for example GED) plus a Journeyman Landscape Gardener Certification OR Horticultural Diploma.
  • 36 months experience post certificate/diploma is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook) and working knowledge of GIS, PARIS and PeopleSoft HCM and FSCM are also required.
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist certification would be an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for occasional business use.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, organizing, problem solving and communication skills are required.
Working Conditions:  Requires driving to sites and walking on site for inspections. Exposure to weather , dust, dirt and chemicals.
 
Pre-employment Requirements
  • Must be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit .
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test:
An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Hours of work: Non-Standard 38 winter hour work week
and 40 hours during summer months
