Timber Resource Analyst (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Job Description:

The Timber Resource Analyst will provide leadership and analytical support for division level strategic projects and will provide analytical support to all aspects of operations to improve operating performance. The incumbent will be expected to conduct various forms of analysis including investment modeling, cost analysis, high quality research, and analysis of industry, markets, competitors, and new business opportunities. 

It is expected that the Timber Resource Analyst will maintain an independent and objective perspective in support of operations and division growth opportunities. Job responsibilities will require frequent interaction with members of the senior management team, the finance team and operating managers in the division.

This is a fulltime regular position working out of the Korbel, CA office. This position reports directly to the Vice President and General Manager of California Operations. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned) 
    
   •Initiates project-based studies for streamlining operations and/or increasing revenues. 
   •Completes strategic analysis of options for improved use of timber resources. 
   •Performs financial analysis and special studies as directed by the Division Vice President and General Manager. 
   •Provides analytical support for the acquisition / disposition of timberlands. 
   •Provides support as necessary for the California Operations Annual Plan and Quarterly Review process. 
   •Reviews all capital investment proposals for proper preparation, appropriateness of project, and compliance with Management Guide requirements. 
   •Synthesizes information and provide in-depth perspectives on industry trends to make recommendations for a variety of reasons. 
   •Performs other responsibilities as assigned or required by the operations. 
   •Travels as required for completion of projects. 
   •Visits woods operations from time to time. 
   •Assures a safe workplace. Takes personal initiative and an aggressive responsibility to insure ongoing safe behaviors through implementation and active participation in the company safety program with a goal of no recordable accidents. Develops, implements, and facilitates safety elements to support the Divisions Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP). 
    

Qualifications:

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 
    
   •Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance or equivalent experience with an undergraduate degree in forestry. California Register Professional Forester (RPF) License Preferred. 
   •Minimum of five years planning or financial analysis or other work related experience with exposure to forestry and/or lumber business. 
   •Must have the ability to read and interpret maps. 
   •Five years computer experience including the use of Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook. 
   •Superior attention to detail and organizational skills. 
   •Ability to design and deliver presentations to the RMT and other management groups. 
   •Management or supervisory experience and project team management. 
   •Ability to work long days as needed. 
   •Ability to create a vision of the end state and develop the processes necessary to move toward that vision. 
   •Excellent analytical abilities and decision-making skills. 
   •Ability to be highly motivated and self-directed. 
   •Exhibits strong leadership skills. Works with integrity, trust and commitment, setting an example for others. 
   •Must be able to successfully pass a qualifying course in ATV training.

Miscellaneous:

   •This position is located in Korbel, CA. 
   •Mandatory travel to remote company locations. 
   •Field Work in addition to a normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting over 50 lbs., regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching. 
   •Ability to tour logging operations, attend training and company functions. 
   •Ability to perform consistent work on a PC. 
   •Must maintain punctual and regular attendance and present appropriate professional appearance at all times. 
   •Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with GDRCo. 
   •Ability to orient, climb, and traverse steep rugged, densely vegetated terrain on a consistent basis in in sometimes harsh weather conditions for long periods of time. 
   •Works in conditions that may expose employee wildlife encounters, poison oak and/or insect bites. 

Salary:
 
Wage range: $77,000 to $114,000 annually depends on qualifications and experience
