AT LOGGING LTD. is based in British Columbia and looking for 2 supervisors logging and forestry with at least three years experience with remote controlled tower cable yarders and with a completed college program in forestry.  Work location is in logging areas of British Columbia.

Duties

  • Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of logging and forestry workers in woodland operations
  • Setup and control of intermediate spars (especially single tree support systems) and tail spars and assessment of stability
  • Correct setup of cable lines and beat of cable alleys in clear cutting and selective or green tree operations, chokerman as well as tree climbing
  • Schedule work crews, equipment and transportation for several work locations 
  • Instruct yarder crew in safety working, recognize unsafe work conditions and modify work procedures and ensure that government regulations are met
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures
  • Communicate with forestry technical, professional and management personnel regarding forest harvesting and forest management plans, procedures and schedules

Requirements

  • College diploma in forestry
  • Minimum 3 years experience as an operator of computer-supported, remote controlled tower cable yarders (Mounty, Steinkogel, Wolverine, Syncro Falke, SKM) in uphill and downhill yarding up to 700 meters
  • Experience as an instructor / trainer of safety training for remote controlled tower cable yarders
  • Over 6 months experience with ATHOSK (vocational training concept and safety training for the use of mobile tower cable yarders in the logging industry)
  • Proof of efficient and safe use of Syncrotronic, Bachmaier or Konrad computer remote control systems, minimum of 3 years experience required
  • Electronic, computer and technical knowledge is required
  • German or Bosnian language skills are an asset

Location and start of work:

Columbia Valley, Shuswap area, Okanagan, Thompson area

Duration of work:

Up to three years (possibility of extension); work is years round except during temporary shutdowns due to fire or adverse weather.  It is anticipated that there will be the opportunity to work between 10 to 11 months in each 12 months period.

Compensation

  • Compensation: 40 hours per week, 30 CAD per hour:  Overtime 45 CAD per hour
  • Benefits: Extended health benefits to be negotiated (subject to a 6 month waiting period)
