Forestry Student Applicants Wanted - Summer 2019 Internship Positions Available - Working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Black Walnut Inventory Program, Winnebago Reservation, Eastern Nebraska (2 Positions)
Needs: 2 Positions will be based on the Winnebago Reservation (Winnebago, NE)
Working Conditions: You will work in two person field teams in remote locations on the Winnebago Reservation conducting a 100% inventory of Black walnut. The work-week may be four, ten-hour days or five, eight-hour days depending on need. Much of the work will be along the streams, rivers and hills of the reservation.
Employment Period: May 27 – August 9, 2019 (You must make a full summer commitment.)
Training: All crew members will be trained in measurement and data collection techniques, GPS navigation, data recorder operation, safety, etc. Training will take place the first two weeks on the job on each reservation. All forestry field equipment is provided by BIA Forestry.
Housing: The government will provide rental housing or motel lodging on or near the reservation.
What to bring: Personal work gear should include a good pair of work / hiking boots. In addition, you will need to bring warm clothing (jackets, coat, rain gear, etc.). The early summers, like May can be wet and cool in Nebraska; you will need to have some warm clothing and wet weather gear.
Employment You will be contract employees and representatives of Horry-Georgetown Technical College (SC), under the direction of BIA Forestry Staff. Any injuries that you may have must be reported to HGTC immediately. The College pays on a monthly basis. Checks are direct deposited on the 15th of the following month. The pay rate is $13.84 per hour. This is a flat rate contract; there is no provision for overtime.
