Key Responsibilities

  • Budgeting including annual budget preparation, forecasting and tracking of expenditures by entity as well as overall adherence to approved budgets
  • Support RTM in developing annual silviculture program consistent with needs, budget, and desired outcomes
  • Supervise projects and associated Company staff, interns, and contractors
  • Maintain safe working conditions and facilities for staff and promote safe work behaviors
  • Ensure that herbicide applications are done in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Manage workload and assigned service contractors with minimal supervision
  • Collaborate with the RTS department on the annual District inventory plan
  • Maintain close working relationship with operations staff on harvest planning and road related issues
  • Negotiate easements and other land use needs as requested
  • Manage the Roanoke Timberlands reforestation program including project planning, execution and seedling deployment
  • Represent the Company positively in all interactions with agencies and industry cooperators
  • Maintain good relationships with the public and neighbors at all times
  • Protect the Roanoke Timberlands from risk of loss due to fire or public abuse

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, with 5+ years of proven forestry field and administrative experience
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability
  • Highly organized with ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the BMPs for Water Quality (VA & NC) and the appropriate use of herbicides
  • Physically capable of working in forested environments and adverse terrain in all weather conditions
  • Excellent ability to manage multiple priorities and seasonally demanding workloads
  • Excellent proficiency in all aspects of MS Office and other company software
  • Thorough understanding of financial analysis tools and principles sufficient to develop custom spreadsheets for internal forestry financial investment analysis
  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
