Stimson Lumber Company is seeking to fill a Seasonal Forester Position working with the Fee Land Management Department out of our Newport, WA offices. This is a largely field oriented position that requires physical work outdoors, in all-weather conditions.

The Seasonal Forester will be primarily responsible for harvest project layout, PCT unit layout, and silvicultural surveys. Daily job sites will vary and may be throughout NE Washington.  Company provided transportation will be available from base office to daily work sites. This is a full-time, hourly position. 40 hours/week.  Duration is approximately six-months and is anticipated to begin May 2019.  However, start and end dates are flexible! 

Successful applicants must:

    • Have a Degree in Natural Resources or related Forestry program (2-year or 4-year)
    • Minimum of 2 summer seasons of experience in a Forestry related position
    • Be able to work independently or as part of a team
    • Have a demonstrated commitment to safety
    • Be comfortable working in remote locations, while navigating uneven and steep terrain
    • Be able to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record
    • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
    • Be able to routinely lift up to 50 lbs. and spend 8 or more hours a day on their feet

    Demonstrated Forestry Skills:

    • Familiar with the use of Arc GIS 10, in addition to strong knowledge of MS Office software
    • Photo interpretation skills, map orienteering, filed location with GPS, boundary line location with compass, other basic land navigation skills
    • Familiar with the use of basic forestry tools, Clinometer, compass, diameter tape, Tablet.
    • Dendrology skills, ability to identify all Inland Northwest commercial tree species
    • Knowledge of Inland Northwest Silviculture methods and logging systems; their applications and limitations
    • Experience with riparian area identification, riparian vegetation and applying riparian area buffer zones
    • Exposure to Washington FPA regulations is preferred.
    • Exposure to legal documentation establishing ownership, access and encumbrance is preferred.
