MAINTENANCE MANAGER – BARWICK, ONTARIO

Reporting to the General Manager, the  Maintenance Manager  is responsible for the safe and cost-effective maintenance of the mill.  The Maintenance Manager utilizes related experience, project management expertise, leadership abilities and a preventative maintenance mindset.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the management of a highly qualified maintenance team, maintaining maximum uptime and open communications with production personnel.  Active participation in the operation’s efforts towards providing a safe working environment along with continuous innovation and process improvements initiatives. Specific duties may include:

  • Implements, designs, utilizes and enforces proactive safety steps. Participates in regular safety. meetings with the mindset all accidents are preventable.
  • Oversee short- and long-term project plans for all maintenance shutdowns.
  • Source and liaise with outside contractors regarding external manufacturing of equipment, negotiating price quotes and written agreements. Involves attaining innovative/efficient equipment within budgeted allowances.
  • Tracks mill downtime issues and builds a corrective action plan to prevent reoccurrence and or reduce downtime and ensure the mill’s uptime is at or above target.
  • Participates in planning and recommending of capital projects as part of the site management team.
  • Provides input for the creation of the yearly maintenance budget.
  • Submit month-end and quarterly reports regarding major down time events, highlights, and capital project updates.
  • Oversee labour requirements for maintenance, provide guidance, direction, mentoring and progressive discipline (if required) to direct reports, assist with grievance resolution.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory maintenance experience within the forest industry, preferably at an OSB operation; Journeyman certification- Electrical, Millwright, or HD Tech; understanding and prior utilization of preventative maintenance tools; such as lubrication, vibration analysis and thermography; extensive hydraulic experience, Project Management training; and a background and or education in engineering.  Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are a must to effectively participate in a team environment. A commitment to safe work practices, as well as experience with a computerize maintenance system is essential.
