Description: 

The Logistics Manager at this multi-sawmill operation in Washington State will oversee all logistics operations and be involved in lumber warehousing, inventory control, and customer service/sales support. The Manager is responsible for all transportation of log truck deliveries to the sawmill, warehousing of lumber and for scheduling and arranging all transportation of finished goods by truck, van, rail or container. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with customers and sales team to ensure on-time deliveries of the product across North America and around the world.
  • Strategically plan and manage outbound and inbound logistics, forward warehousing, and transportation.
  • Responsible for vendor selection and building relationships with vendors in all logistics channels
  • Logistics manager responsibilities include organizing and monitoring storage and distribution of lumber and logs.
  • Working with existing freight forwarders and possibly steamship lines directly to minimize costs and maximize value of overseas logistics
  • Manages and plans for logistics policies, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Creates procedures for logistics management to optimize shipments and minimize cost.
  • Regularly communicate to the sales team costs for servicing different routes via different service levels (flatbeds vs. OTR Vans vs. Rail Vans)
  • Communicate to the resource team costs for inbound logs via different service levels (log truck vs. rail vs. barge)
  • Ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
  • Meet cost, productivity, accuracy and timeliness targets
  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements
  • Comply with laws, regulations and ISO requirements 

Requirements:

  • 10 years of transportation management for a sawmill. Trucking, train, shipping and log trucks.
  • 1 to 3 years supervisory experience required.
  • Proven working experience as a logistics manager
  • Record of successful distribution and logistics management
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and manage staff
  • Proficient in standard logistics software
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
