Forestry Technician – Electric and Gas Transmission

We are currently seeking a Forestry Technician candidate to provide Electric and Gas Transmission line arborist consulting services throughout Pacific Gas & Electric’s (PG&E) California service territory and possibly beyond.  Occasional overnight travel will be required. Project sites will primarily be located in the greater San Francisco Bay Area (South Bay, East Bay and North Bay) and Central Coast regions, but may include assignment opportunities throughout PG&E’s service territory including the Central Valley, North Coast, and Sierra Foothills.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Forestry Technician is responsible for project set-up and coordination of vegetation management activities in support of PG&E’s Electric and Gas operations.
  • Coordinate utility vegetation management projects, including assessment, budgeting, inventory, layout, work/bid specifications, customer/landowner notification & conflict resolution, project implementation, field management, auditing, and reporting.
  • Assess utility line corridors and project sites, make recommendations for required vegetation management activities (trimming, removal, protection or restoration), and coordinate implementation of said activities.
  • Work as part of a strong team and independently with a focus on environmental stewardship to successfully provide high quality vegetation management consulting services to meet and exceed client expectations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the client, private property owners, city, county, and state agencies, contractors and consultants by performing duties in a manner that will promote and maintain good public relations.
  • Involvement in environmental assessment, permitting, researching and ensuring requirements of agencies and municipalities are followed.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • ISA Certified Arborist desired. 
  • Utility Specialist Certification desired
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science or related field preferred.
  • Proficient in computer word processing, spreadsheet applications, and mapping software.
  • Ability to keep detailed records, including photographs and a daily log.
  • Knowledge of landscape practices, such as branch and tree pruning, preferred.
  • Ability to work closely with work crews.
  • Demonstrated public relations and investigative skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills, independent decision-making skills, sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task

  • Ability to work alone, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Bi-lingual speaking (English and Spanish) is a plus.

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; carry, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (5 to 10 lbs.); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information with public; ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction; operate assigned field equipment, including handheld computer, range finder, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cone.
