Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position perform, lead and directly supervise work crews engaged in performing a variety of urban forestry tree maintenance functions such as planting, trimming, removing, stump grinding and other related duties.  These positions may require mandatory availability for 24-hour snow and storm call.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate’s degree in Horticulture, Forestry, Arboriculture, or a closely related field.  OR  Two years of experience supervising and/or participating in the professional care and maintenance of trees which includes planting, trimming, and removing trees.  Qualifying experience should demonstrate proficiency with the operation of tree maintenance equipment such as chainsaws, pole pruners, axes, aerial lift trucks, brush and log chippers, stump cutters, dump trucks and other related equipment.  OR  an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis.  Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present license at the time of the Oral Interview.  Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application.  Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a " Driving Record Check " from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.

A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, experience and training as listed on the Employment Application.
