American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) seeks an experienced Manager to lead our forestry team in Northwest Montana.  This position reports to the Intermountain Region Manager and will be responsible for managing and growing a diverse forestry consulting business which currently includes 290,000 acres under management contracts, small family forest owner projects, government projects including GNA work, and other consulting contracts.  The successful candidate will work closely with other District and Area Managers in Washington and Idaho to ensure client continuity and objectives are achieved. 

As the Montana District Manager; this position will be responsible for developing and generating new forestry consulting and forest management business and assisting with real estate business to continue growth in the Intermountain Region in addition to the list below.

 

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a growing 4-person team for compliance with Company mission, vision, core values and policies
  • Prepares annual budgets and operating plans, forecasts, and reports for clients
  • Facilitate client communications, reports, and client tours
  • Oversees the management and implementation of forest operations
  • Oversees the delivered log and stumpage program
  • Road construction and maintenance program management
  • Responsible for reforestation, spray programs, and other silvicultural activities
  • Participation in industry meetings and co-ops
  • Work within the objectives of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative
  • Work to assist clients with achieving their objectives, which may include harvest targets, revenue goals, and implementing conservation or carbon easements
  • Manage leases, road easements, rock permits, burning program, permits, and access records
  • Manages team performance and adherence to safety program
  • Mentors, develops, and encourages AFM staff in meeting their career goals
  • Develop and grow new business in Montana and North Idaho
  • Prepares District budget, monthly reports, and projections
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Region Manager

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or equivalent
  • 10+ years forestry experience, with experience in the western United States preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong listening capabilities with the ability to translate communications into appropriate action
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under strict time constraints
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Arc GIS skills desired, but not required
  • Ability to manage and work within a team environment
  • Ability to work in difficult field conditions, such as walking in steep terrain, over vegetation, and on rocks, during inclement weather (snow, rain, heat)
  • Ability to safely operate motor vehicles on steep and narrow mountain roads

Required Experience:
